Leeds Grenville has more than 800 kilometres of well-maintained roads and some of the best scenery in eastern Ontario. We have the 1000 Islands, the Frontenac Arch Biosphere, the Rideau Canal Waterway, and so much more. There is a 37-kilometre bike path along the 1000 Islands Parkway - part of the Great Lakes Waterfront Trail - from just outside of Gananoque to near Brockville with great views of islands on the St. Lawrence River.
Our region lies between the St. Lawrence River and the Ottawa River, including the dramatically beautiful and rugged Canadian Shield. You can cycle past enormous rock cuts and discover not only the natural beauty but lots of history dating back to when the area was called Upper Canada.
Helpful links: The Frontenac Arch Biosphere Network website has in depth information on Cycling the Arch and the 1000 Islands, including mapping of seven different cycling trails: Brockville West Collection, Howe Island Loop and Marble Rock Roll, Desert Lake Loop, Charleston Lake Loop, Portland-Westport-Perth Loop, Edge of the Arch and Jones Falls Tour, River and Ridges and Transit (Kingston to Montreal via the Ontario Waterfront Trail). Ontario By Bike, Alltrails.com and www.gobiking.ca are other great resources showcasing various trails in the region by level of difficulty and accessibility.
www.ontariotrails.on.ca also offers an extensive list of off-road trails for South Eastern Ontario locations including on or off-road cycling, ATVing, hiking and backpacking, canoeing and kayaking and so much more.
